Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling knows about annual rookie pranks and now passes the torch to Skyy Moore.
It’s not uncommon for rookies to be pranked by veterans when they come into the NFL; just ask Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling. He’s been through it before in Green Bay, and now he has passed the torch to Skyy Moore in KC.
Few forget the image of the big dinner bill that Moore had to pay off when his new teammates racked up a bill of over $20,000. It doesn’t sound like much for an NFL player unless you are a rookie on a rookie contract.
Valdes-Scantling knows that feeling. Moore, according to MVS, was “sweating” when his card was declined. Ultimately, Moore was told about the prank, and the bill was paid off. A funny way of initiation, if you will.
“It went on for the whole time. They brought the bill out. They ran his card twice, it got declined. He was sweating for a good five minutes. It was a long five minutes too.”
Marquez Valdes-Scantling has passed the rookie hazing torch to Skyy Moore
If Skyy Moore can turn into a dominant player for the Kansas City Chiefs, there is a good chance that teammates like Marquez Valdes-Scantling won’t be pulling these kinds of jokes on him anymore.
Moore totaled 171 catches at Western Michigan for over 2,400 yards over three seasons while scoring 16 touchdowns. What stands about him is his speed, evidenced by his 4.41 seconds in the 40-yard dash. It was no surprise that the Chiefs took him in the second round to help compensate for the departure of Tyreek Hill.
This is not to say that Moore can’t wholly replace Hill, as it will be a challenge. Still, his ability is unquestioned and can be an asset in the passing game. He also knows how to make the most out of a situation, including his card being declined. Maybe he can get his teammates back by beating them consistently in practice, but if he can ball out on gameday and help the Chiefs get to where they want to end up, those same people who pranked him will likely be bowing down to him.
