The San Diego Padres have landed Juan Soto from the Washington Nationals in a monster trade that also sends Josh Bell to the Pads in the blockbuster.

It happened: Juan Soto has been traded and will be heading to the San Diego Padres.

Amid all of the will-they, won’t-they leading up to the MLB Trade Deadline on Tuesday, San Diego remained a frontrunner to pull off the deal with the Washington Nationals. And now they’ve done it and have also landed another big bat in the deal.

As first reported by MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the Padres are getting Soto and veteran first-baseman Josh Bell in the trade.

Juan Soto trade details: Padres get Soto, Josh Bell from Nationals

One of the reasons that the Padres were such heavy players in the deal was because of the prospects they could offer. Here’s what the trade looks like.

Here’s a look at the trade for both teams spelled out perfectly.

Padres Get

OF Juan Soto

1B Josh Bell

Nationals Get

SP MacKenzie Gore, SS CJ Abrams

1B Eric Hosmer, OF Robert Hassell III

P James Wood

P Jarlin Susana

For a 23-year-old superstar like Juan Soto, the Padres were always going to have to pony up a huge haul of prospects, but they had the system to do so. Now, they are looking at one of the biggest trade deadline hauls in MLB history.

Not only does San Diego now pair Soto with Manny Machado and soon-returning Fernando Tatis Jr., but they also pulled off a deal for Brewers closer Josh Hader on Monday and landed Bell in this deal as well. That’s massive for a team that, though they are well behind in the NL West race, are heading strongly for the postseason and could make a monster push in the playoffs.

As for the Nationals, they were in a tough spot from the jump with the way things were trending regarding Soto’s future. So to get this type of haul as sellers is about as good as they could’ve done.
